Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is a city in Broward County, and it happens to be its county seat. This city is the namesake of Major William Lauderdale, a commander of soldiers who built the city’s first fort. Fort Lauderdale is a huge tourist destination due to its warm weather and abundance of lodging areas. With a population of approximately 179,000 people, this city is the eighth-largest community in Florida.
Since Fort Lauderdale is surrounded by beaches, its residents place great importance on protecting marine life. They even have a festival dedicated to sea turtles: the Tortuga Music Festival. Thousands of people gather every April to listen to musicians perform and engage in other activities. Do you love sports, particularly soccer? Then you'll love the convenience of watching the Fort Lauderdale Strikers play at Lockhart Stadium. The stadium can hold up to about 17,500 spectators. The area also has great recreation opportunities such as the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, which is the perfect place for a weekend trip or a mini vacation from everyday life. It’s home to animals like turtles, opossums, ducks, hawks and more. Some of the activities you can enjoy there include camping, hiking, swimming, cycling and looking at wildlife. It also has a visitor’s center where you can learn about Florida’s ecosystem and the park’s founder Hugh Taylor Birch. Looking for cultural? See a play or concert at Broward Center for the Performing Arts. This arts venue is considered Broward County’s cultural hub by locals and visitors alike. Over 700,000 patrons a year go there to see ballets, operas, lectures, community events and other performances. Additionally, Fort Lauderdale offers many primary and secondary schools: sixteen public elementary schools, five public middle schools, four public high schools and seven private schools. It also offers nine institutions of higher learning which make it a great choice for homebuyers with children.
Fort Lauderdale real estate properties are made up of apartments, mobile homes, single family residences and townhouses. Over 52 percent of Fort Lauderdale homes were built between 1940-1969, so they tend to be in well-established neighborhoods. However, there are also newer and more spacious homes to be found here as well. Most dwellings here have two bedrooms, but there are exceptions. With the diverse real estate market, homes can be found in a broad price range that will accommodate most home buyers' budgets. Fort Lauderdale is an excellent city in which to buy a home, whether you’re planning on living here for years or for one season. Its nice weather, beaches, wildlife and cultural arts make it an awesome place in which to dwell.
